Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital is committed to the prevention of illness and injury through the provision and maintenance of a healthy and safe workplace. The hospital endeavours to meet its responsibilities for the health and safety of the members of the community by complying with relevant health and safety standards and legislative requirements, and by assigning general and specific responsibilities for workplace health and safety.

As C.E.O. and the employer, I am ultimately responsible for worker health and safety and I give you my commitment that every reasonable precaution will be taken in the event of an adverse situation. I will work hard at promoting a safety culture within the organization.

Management will take every reasonable step to acquaint its employees with their rights and duties in the workplace and applicable regulations and procedures for protecting their health and safety. Management will establish policies and programs to assist in maintaining safe conditions and work practices and facilitating employee participation in health and safety activities, including health and safety committees.

In-charge personnel (supervisors as defined under the Occupational Health and Safety Act) will be held accountable for the health and safety of staff under their supervision. In-charge personnel are responsible to ensure that all processes, machinery and equipment that are used in our facility are safe and that our staff works in compliance with the established safe work practices and procedures. Staff must receive adequate training in their specific tasks to protect their health and safety.

Every employee must protect his or her own health and safety by working in compliance with the appropriate legislation as it pertains to our industry and within the safe work practices and procedures established by HGMH. Employees have a responsibility to participate in the Early and Safe Return to Work Programs.

Contractors, subcontractors and their employees must comply with the requirements of all applicable Acts, regulations and codes and in accordance with the provisions of our health and safety programs and processes. Only competent persons may be employed to perform work on HGMH property.

It is the interest of all parties to consider health and safety in every activity. Commitment to health and safety must form an integral part of this organization, emanating from the C.E.O. to the employees.

This policy statement was approved by the Board of Directors on 10th of June 2010.
