NEW August 4, 2020: We want to inform the public that a staff member at HGMH has tested positive for COVID-19. Since learning of this, we have tested patients who may have come in contact with this staff member, and all results have come back negative. Further, contact tracing with staff members and physicians has also come back negative.  Our inpatient care units, emergency department, diagnostics, and clinics continue to be open, and we are ready to serve our community.

If you wish to be screened for COVID-19, please proceed to your local screening centre.

Please note that the only access into the hospital will be the Emergency Department entrance. All patients and visitors will be screened by a staff member at the entrance before being permitted to enter the hospital. The hospital is continually updating screening criteria as new information becomes available.

All pool programs have been temporarily suspended until further notice.  

Reopening Non-Urgent Services Safely: 

HGMH is introducing a gradual restart to non-urgent endoscopies, lab, diagnostic imaging, EKGs, holter monitors, stress tests, and outpatient physiotherapy. Patients will be called prior to their appointments for pre-screening.

What to expect: 

  1. 2-point screening for COVID 19:
    • Pre-screening via phone during booking
    • Screening at entrance
    • Note: Screening entrance may be dependent on clinic type. Instructions will be provided during your pre-screening phone call. 
  2. Physical distancing approach:
    • Visitor restrictions are still in place to keep you safe
    • Waiting room restrictions: Arrive no more than 15-30 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment.
    • Adjustments are being made across all departments in the event COVID-19 cases requiring hospital care increases
  3. When in the hospital:
    • Wear a mask
      • If you have your own cloth mask, wear it when you arrive.
      • If you do not have a mask we will provide one
    • Respect physical distancing
      • Have family drop you off and pick you up instead of accompanying you into the hospital
      • Respect restrictions on visitation (see below for details)
    • Clean your hands frequently! Use sanitizer or soap and water.


Visiting Patients: 

At HGMH, we are pleased to be able to expand our pandemic visitor policy.  Visitors can now call to set a 30-minute visitation appointment with a patient.  This policy is subject to change at any time to accommodate public health recommendations.  See full details on the latest version of our pandemic visitation policy.

Ontario Virtual Care Clinic: 

Ontario Health (OTN) and partners have launched the Ontario Virtual Care Clinic – at – to support Ontarians who don’t have a family doctor or who cannot access their family doctor during the pandemic. The free, 24/7, secure online service is for non-urgent, non-COVID-19 primary care issues. Once patients register with their OHIP card and code ‘health’, they wait briefly to connect with the next available on-call physician by secure video or audio.
