Hospitals in the Champlain Region are supportive of Ontario’s plan to require proof of vaccination to access businesses. COVID-19 vaccination is effective at reducing the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death, and therefore protects our health-care system from becoming overwhelmed. That is why, in the coming weeks, all hospitals in the region will begin requiring proof of vaccination for visitors entering the hospital. It’s an additional layer of protection to keep everyone safe.

Effective October 4th, 2021, all Visitors/Essential Care Partners will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated with a WHO approved vaccine (at least 14 days post second dose) as well as a valid piece of identification. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated will not be permitted entry unless they meet the following exemptions:

  1. Those who clearly indicate they have a medical exemption;
  2. Those visiting patients at the end-of-life;
  3. Parents of children under the age of 16;
  4. Those coming to the Emergency Department;
  5. Individuals who are essential to accompany patients to appointments or participate in care planning discussions.

As of November 15th, 2021 patients being admitted to the hospital can have visitors who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, only one (1) of these visitors can come in at a time between the hours of 10am and 8pm, seven (7) days per week.

Visitors/essential care partners must be screened through the Emergency Department Entrance and continue to follow our infection prevention and control procedures as well as Public Health restrictions.
